Quantification of Traffic Congestion Based on Vehicular Speed under Heterogeneous Flow Conditions using Fuzzy Inference Model

Abstract: Traffic congestion is a condition on transport networks that occurs as use increases, and is characterized by slower speeds, longer trip times, and increased vehicular queuing. In simple words, “the ability of a vehicle to move forward in a traffic state” defines congestion. Traffic congestion has become a serious problem in the urban districts. In heterogeneous flow like India, congestion impacts the movement of people both in perception and in reality that leads to consumption of time, energy and also leads to the pollution. In order to save precious human life, eliminate road accidents and the essence factor called time, it is essential to ensure a proper measure for traffic congestion. Earlier there were several attempts made to develop different approaches for congestion analysis. At present the congestion levels of ten different road stretches of Visakhapatnam city within the Central Business District (CBD) area. The main aim of this study is to introduce a versatile fuzzy logic traffic flow model that is capable of making optimal traffic prediction to identify the congestion levels of the city by considering the factors like vehicle volume, average speed and road speed limits by using MATLAB and to generate the desired congestion index of the specified study stretches. This study lays the foundation for traffic congestion prediction, early warning & proactive alleviation of traffic congestion.

Prospects for Practical Application Conditions of Abnormally High Amplitude Self-Oscillating Fluid Flow (Part 1)

Abstract: The outflow of an incompressible fluid from a rectangular opening covered by a semicircular arched element is considered. The self-oscillatory expiration regime is numerically investigated. The computational algorithm implemented in the STAR-CCM+ software package includes a grid approximation in space, an implicit time integration method, and an algebraic multigrid method for solving systems of algebraic equations. A variant of the hole geometry with an aspect ratio of is considered. An explanation is given to the mechanism of the self-oscillatory process. The distribution of oscillation amplitude values in space at the exit from the hole is determined. Some possibilities of practical application of the described phenomenon are determined.

Abstract: Biofuel possesses high biodegradability and lubricating property which improves engine efficiency also to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and to lower emissions of greenhouse gases( particulate matter and carbon dioxide emissions). As renewable biofuels generally contain carbon fixation. Biofuel can be carbon-neutral because all biomass crops sequester carbon to certain extent basically distinctive promise is, in combination with an emerging technology called carbon capture and storage. Biofuels which can be produced from renewable domestic resources offer an alternative to petroleum based fuels. The main contribution of this work lies in comparative study of different methods which are processed by different researchers. This study shall help the policy makers to choose the best criteria out of these methods while formulating newer edition method.

Abstract: The “City of Diamond: Surat” is looking to enhance the quality of life in its cities by making the cities livable places. But in urbanized Surat, lack of open spaces or public places, pose a block in developing as a smart city. The solution? Reclaiming the streets. The impression of street as gathering place and relaxation area has been revolving around since the dawn of ages. Apart from providing mobility, streets act as a connection between people and place will be understood with ‘Link and Place’ concept. This thesis highlights the importance of aesthetics, accessibility, safety and walkability, which needs to be considered during street design. The analytical study uses examples from around the world of applying the ‘Link and Place’ concept in order to develop the ‘Complete street’ approaches and recommendations at ‘L.P.Savani Road’, Adajan, Pal, West Zone of Surat. This study will try to create a model of ‘Complete Street’ for Indian streetscapes, where the streets serve a multipurpose network focusing on its activeness and inclusiveness; With observational surveys and design tools.

Implementation of Green Highway in Indian Contextl

Abstract: Transportation plays an important role in the economic development of country. India has a total road network of 58.98 lakh kms which is second largest in the world (1). While increase in road highways is linked to the economic development, it comes with a compromise to the ecology in the form of deforestation etc. (2). With the compromise being made, the idea of mitigating the damage in the form of ‘green highway’ comes into picture. Green Highway incorporates both transportation functionality and ecological requirements (3). While the western countries have developed the method for evaluating the green highway, it’s only in September 2015 when the MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport & Highways) has framed Green Highway policy (4). The objective of this research is to study the existing guidelines for evaluating green highways and to develop the framework for guidelines that is most suitable for Indian Context through literature study and case study approach.
